This is a blog run by digital learning technologists about learning technology. But the question often comes up What are learning technologies? Or What is that a learning technologist does? A good starting point is the definition offered by the Association for Learning Technology (ALT).
We define Learning Technology as the broad range of communication, information and related technologies that can be used to support learning, teaching and assessment.
Learning technology is not a separate category of software and hardware. Rather it is defined by the use we put it to in the context of teaching and learning. In this spirit, the posts we’re planning for this blog will cover a whole range of technologies that may be used to make learning or teaching easier but may not in themselves seem very ‘educational’. But they won’t only focus on technologies but also on ways of using them, thinking about them, and the new pedagogies they may open up.
We look forward to exploring this world with you and hope to bring the dry definition to life through continued engagement and interaction with our community.
