Select Digiknow sessions are run every term via the IT Learning Centre. If you would like to schedule a special session for your team, please contact Dominik Lukeš.
The sessions are in the following categories:
This session will help you create documents that are more readable for everyone and more accessible for people with special needs. We will look at principles of readable formatting and how they can be achieved with every day tools without much additional effort. These techniques will apply to print, PDFs and web documents. If you want, you can bring in some documents you created and see how you could easily reformat them.
Do you want to simplify your writing without sounding too simple? This session will introduce key principles of simple language and tools that can help you achieve this. You will learn how to structure your document, how to shorten sentences and how to avoid constructions that make understanding more difficult. You will also learn how to check and interpret the readability score of your document. You can also bring your own documents to simplify.
Graphical displays of complex information are very effective and can enhance understanding of difficult subjects. They are also an essential tool for including more kinds of people in your audience. And not least, they can help content creators organise their thinking about the subject. Many people worry that they need to learn to use a complicated graphics editor or pay a graphic designer. But that’s not true. This session will show you how you can create powerful graphics with the tools you already use.
This session will introduce participants to the various types of free images that can be used in documents, web pages, and presentations. Participants will learn about the key sources of free images and other media online. The session will also introduce the fundamentals of open licencing and Creative Commons that all educators should understand. Finally, the session will cover key tools and strategies for embedding images in documents for maximum impact.

This 2-hour workshop introduces participants to the key concepts and principles of instructional design with special emphasis on online and blended teaching and learning. However, the principles are just as relevant to people teaching fully offline courses.
This session will give you a quick overview and demonstration of RapidMooc – a system for recording videos with just the touch of a button. Recording a video is as easy as connecting a laptop to a projector and pushing start. The presenter then appears with the PowerPoint (or whatever else is on the screen) as a background. The style of videos recorded with RapidMooc is familiar from online courses (MOOCs) or LinkedIn Learning but it can be used to record videos for any purpose including staff training, promotion, projects reports, etc. This session is an alternative to the more extensive 3-hour workshop on Creating videos with RapidMooc which focuses on practical work on videos.”
This is a more extensive workshop aimed at people interested in the whole process of video creation. This 3-hour workshop will take you through everything you need to make a video with RapidMooc. You will be taken through the complete process of preparing a short (2-3 minute) video and will leave with a usable recorded video (or at least a first draft). RapidMooc has been used to create successful videos for mini lectures, staff training, video CVs and more. You can watch an example (and learn more about the RapidMooc) at https://canvas.sbs.ox.ac.uk/courses/427. The workshop will cover:

The internet has revolutionised learning but it has had much less of an impact on teaching. Informal or semi-formal learning opportunities are available to everyone for free or at negligible costs in almost any subject. But most educators are not aware of the full extent of what is available. This session will present examples from 6 domains in which informal and semiformal learning and teaching have emerged spontaneously in the online world. It will offer short vignettes of creators and the types of content they produce, the online infrastructure and communities that enable that. But primarily it will focus on how students consume this content, engage with it and learn from. In each case, we will examine which lessons can be drawn from this.
Give introduction to educators and anybody working in education to the key concepts in AI and how they can be applied to problems facing education.
